The photo above displays 2 hypotrich ciliates (from the subclass Hyptricha). Hypotrichs can be identified by the compound cilia, called cirri, on the ventral side of the cell. The larger hypotrich possessed caudal cirri as well. As for the smaller one, most of them were busy swimming (or crawling) about in circles.
